Clubs and After-School Athletics

What else does McDill offer?

McDill offers several opportunities for our students to get involved in extra-curricular activities. Below are the activities and clubs students can enjoy:

  • Student Council - Open to students in Grades 4-6.  Applications are taken each year in the fall by students wishing to take on a leadership role within the school.  Students are given an opportunity to present themselves to their class and to the advisors for election as members. Student Council members participate in service projects, run fundraisers and school store, attend a leadership conference every year, and serve in many other valuable ways throughout the school year.
Current Advisors:  Paula Worzella and Hannah Worzella.

  • Battle of the Books - Open to students in Grades 4-6. The 4-5th grade students are given a list of 20 titles to read over the course of a few months.  The titles include picture books and chapter books. Students in 6th grade are given a list of 20 chapter books to read. Students compete in a trivia style event in teams of 2-4 players.  School-level competition occurs in January and the winning teams compete at the state level in February. Students will receive information in library classes.

  • Chess Club - Open to students in 4th - 6th Grade.  Club meets on Wednesday mornings from 7:50 -8:35 am. This club is run by an amazing volunteer who works with each student to help them excel and have fun playing chess. It is limited to 12 members, based on grade level and past participation.
Current Advisor:  Gary Chriske, Community Member.

  • Safety Cadets - Open to students in Grades 5-6.  This important leadership role in school is available to students in good standing academically and behaviorally. Cadets help to ensure the safety of our students before and after school, inside and outside the building.
Current Advisor: Hannah Worzella and Rachel Ciurro-Ziolkowski

  • Helping Hands Club - Open to students in 3rd Grade ONLY. Club members participate in activities which help build confidence within themselves and enrich the culture of the school. The club uses the Character Strong curriculum provided by the district as a guide, along with additional resources to help foster optimism and a positive attitude.

AFTER-SCHOOL ATHLETICS:

  • Running Club - Open to students in Grades 4-6.  Club meets in the spring.  Students support each other as they stay active, running together in the surrounding areas close to McDill (or in the building, if inclement weather.)
