Health and Wellness
Healthy, sustainable schools create an environment where students can become active participants in their school, at home and in the community. These schools help students achieve their full academic potential as well as support them in developing lifelong healthy behaviors. Health and wellness not only includes proper eating and exercise habits; it also includes spending time outdoors and in the community.
McDill has a lot to be proud of when it comes to health and wellness, including:
- Participating in the District Health and Wellness committee (staff member)
- Participating in Jump Rope for Heart
- Participating in Walk to School (fall) and Bike to School (spring) Days
- Participating in Walk McDill in the spring
- Participating in the city-wide track and field meet (5th and 6th graders)
- Visiting the Boston School Forest for a day-long field trip (all grades)
- Integrating nutrition education into physical education classes
- Snowshoeing, skiing, walking, and running on trails in the McDill school forest. We also utilize the grass fields for soccer and other sports. We are lucky to have such large green spaces to use for physical fitness, recreation, and learning!
