Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

McDill Elementary School embraces Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) with our Be Statements:  Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Respectful and Be Responsible.  All students learn and practice the expected ways of acting and interacting throughout the school.

Below is our Mission and Vision for our PBIS Tier One Program:

Vision: Develop a school where all students are successful under the approaches we use for PBIS Tier One.

Mission: Mcdill's PBIS Program fosters a safe and positive school environment by creating a lifelong love of learning by making safe, respectful, and responsible choices. This will be accomplished by developing positive staff/student relationships, celebrating student success, and the promotion of high expectations.

PBIS is a school-wide approach to make schools safe and promote positive behavior. It’s also a way for schools to decide how to respond to a child who misbehaves. There are a few important principles:

  • Creating a nurturing environment
  • Pursuing students unique potential
  • Creating a community in which students, staff, and families all feel a sense of ownership and pride
  • Promoting social, emotional, and academic development of all children
  • Creating proactive systems of support to promote a positive culture with equity and respect
  • Using data, community input, and prior knowledge to make school centered decisions.

Keep in mind that PBIS is not a treatment or therapy. It’s more like a framework for teachers, administrators and parents. And it’s used with all students in the school, whether or not they receiving special education services.  According to several studies, PBIS leads to better student behavior.

For further information regarding the PBIS Program, please read through the STUDENT CONDUCT section in the  Elementary Student Handbook.  If you have question regarding the PBIS , please feel free to contact your student's teacher or the Principal.
